Bragg Creek, Alberta

Occupation:

retired geologist

What is your bike's name?:

The Time Machine or Strong-Girl (not sure which one I am riding this year).

What is your level of experience with cycling?:

Advanced

How many years have you done the peloton ride?:

2 years, 2011 and 2012.

Why are you riding in the peloton?:

To raise awareness of WellSpring Calgary which is an amazing resource for families dealing with cancer. It is an amazing group of people, the camaraderie, the riding, seeing the country and a little suffering puts a lot into perspective. Somehow I think that a little bike pain is much easier than going through surgery, radiation and chemo.

What are your top 5 inspirational songs you listen to while riding?:

Billy Idol - Dancing with myself, Christina Aguilara - Burlesque, Rolling Stones - pretty much every song, Queen - Bicycle, anything else with good tempo.

Who are you riding for?:

My brother Richard Motyka - diagnosed with Stage 3 astrocynoma (brain tumor) in August 2003 - still alive and doing amazing!! My sister Alexis Motyka - diagnosed with colon cancer in January 2011, also doing amazing.

What do you hope to get out of the experience this year?:

Lots of great riding, a great team and a lot of fun.

What are you looking forward to most?:

Seeing parts of the country from an amazing perspective, going through areas that I have never been to. Being part of an amazing group of people who all have a common theme of fitness and health and helping those with cancer.

What is your biggest fear for this journey?:

None.

How have you been affected by cancer?:

I have lost friends and family to cancer - I hate cancer.

If cancer walked into the room, what would you say to it?:

F#&K YOU!! Leave us all alone!!

What makes you pedal harder—(when the riding gets tough, what do you think about)?:

Keeping up with the boys.

Tell Your Friends!
