LEWISTON — The public is invited to a ceremony Friday, Oct. 12, to welcome riders from the 2,500-mile trek known as the Cancervive Peloton Project.
The ceremony will be filmed as part of "The Peloton Project," a documentary by local filmmaker Ramsey Tripp.
Forty cyclists, including one Mainer, will ride relay-style from Alberta, Canada, to Lewiston to raise money for cancer-patient care. Their 10-day journey will end when they cross the Longley Bridge on Friday morning.
Riders are expected to cross the bridge between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Members of the public who want to welcome them should gather on the bridge at 10:30 a.m.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Park. Actor and Maine native Patrick Dempsey will speak, as will members of the ride.
Footage of the event may be included in Tripp's documentary.
